Dendrochrononolgy for Shipwreck

2006. 9. 16-17

The National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage is located in Mokpo, one of the Korea's most important historical seaports. The Institute operates two important facilities, the National Maritime Museum and the Sea Relics Storehouse. The first is specialized in the exhibition, management, education, publication, and international conferences on its collections, and the second in the conservation treatment for, and researches of, the shipwrecks and related artifacts excavated from the 1970s to the early 2000s.

The National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage (NRIMCH) holds a collection comprising about 50,000 objects ranging from shipwrecks to underwater cultural heritage objects, navigational skill-related materials, ship replicas, maritime folk craft objects and fishing equipment, among others. The collection of the NRIMCH has steadily increased thanks to the ongoing underwater archaeological excavation projects. The NRIMCH endeavors to arrange information on the collected objects in a digital format.
